What happens on install day
Installation day is when your provider brings the service into your building, installs the necessary equipment, and tests the connection.
What happens when the technician arrives?
The technician will confirm where the service enters the building, determine where the equipment will go, run any required cabling, and test the connection.
The time required depends on the installation. A straightforward visit may take a few hours, while installations that require additional cabling can take longer. Someone who can provide access and make decisions about the installation should be on site.
The installation process
Arrival and site check
The technician confirms where the service enters the building and where the equipment will be installed.
Cabling
If needed, the technician runs cable from the service entry point to the equipment location. The route depends on your building.
Equipment
The provider installs and powers its equipment. Make sure there’s a suitable power outlet nearby.
Testing
The technician brings the service online and tests the connection.
Handover
Before the technician leaves, confirm what was installed and where. Keep a record of the equipment location and any service information they provide.
Before the technician leaves
- Confirm the service is working. Test the connection rather than assuming everything is ready.
- Note where the equipment and demarc are located. See the demarcation point.
- Get your circuit or account reference. You may need it when contacting the provider.
- Ask who to contact if the service stops working. Make sure you know how to get help outside normal business hours.
If the installation doesn’t go to plan
Sometimes an installation can’t be completed because of access, cabling, or other work discovered on site. Your provider will explain what is needed and arrange the next steps. See install date changes.
