Now that 5G internet has taken over the country, Web 3.0 is coming in to take over the world. In less than a decade, crypto, blockchain, DeFi and NFTs are no longer foreign concepts. However, the world is yet to even tap into their potentials. The incoming of Web 3.0 is just the first step of many that will reveal the power and abilities of a decentralized future.
What Was Web 1.0?
When the internet was first created there was just the “read only” version available of it. Internet users all over the world were able to read any information uploaded onto the web. We remember that version of the internet as Web 1.0. Web 1.0 existed from 1991-2004. It was at this time that the world began to have access to unified information with just a login and a few clicks. This is when the age of consumerism began.
What Is Web 2.0?
But then, in 2004, along came the web version that we have today- Web 2.0. Now the users actually had the opportunity to not only be consumers, but to also become producers through the web. Social media platforms, such as Facebook and YouTube, gave users the ability to easily produce and upload their own content onto Web 2.0. As a result, revolutionary online innovations were created. The era of digital monetization, social media influencers and eCommerce was born.
However, in return to having the opportunity to become online producers the users had to sacrifice privacy. The biggest change that came along with Web 2.0 was that the web began gathering information from its users. No longer was only the consumer getting information from the web. Now, the web was also acquiring information from the consumer.
Therefore, when a user goes online today, the web tracks and analyzes their every online move. The web then uses that data to create a customized and targeted web experience for that particular user. From strategic ads to specially suggested links, the web advertises a unique experience to each consumer. This empowers the web, while making the consumer more and more dependent upon it. As a result, today data is power. And it is the web and the makers of the web who hold that power.
What Will Web 3.0 Be?
In Web 1.0 the user was the consumer. In Web 2.0 the user became the product. However, in Web 3.0 the user has the opportunity to become a potential owner of the web and controller of its data. But how can that be?
Well, it all comes to the revolutionary blockchain technology. With the use of this new technology, users may be able to continue creating, editing and posting. However, they will be able to do so with their own power of freedom. When the web becomes decentralized, the web will no longer be exploiting the user to innovate its platform. Instead, the user will now be free to innovate the web and its platform limitlessly.
Today, if a user posts something onto the internet it is on there for forever. Even if the user deletes it off their page that post will still exist somewhere in the web cloud. That is because when the user releases data onto Web 2.0 the web now has full control and all rights over that data. But when the web becomes decentralized, every post that the user wants to be posted can be posted or edited, unhindered. This means that their post cannot be censored, blocked, deleted or edited by someone else, not even by the web. The data can only be uploaded, edited and deleted by the original user. Web 3.0 will take freedom on the internet to a whole new level.
Web3- Even Beyond User Freedom
But even more than just providing uncensored user freedom, Web3 will also raise levels and standards when it comes to technological innovations. Web 3.0 will be more user-friendly by using even more-natural language and further sophisticated AI technology in order to prove to be extra efficient.
Applications will need to be updated to the latest blockchain technology in order to have a voice or even a space within the new web. An entirely new online ecosystem will need to be created to uphold this inventive infrastructure. User-owned platforms will quickly take over entity-owned platforms. Crypto assets might prove to be the most real kind of assets at the time. And trends will be even more powerful, yet vaporous than ever before. Web3 will change life.
When Will Web 3.0 Be?
Today, large entities rule and govern Web 2.0. “Tomorrow”, individuals, supplemented with even more intelligent AI, will rule Web 3.0. Believe it or not, the internet we have today is not as intelligent as it could be. Therefore, Web3 is the solution to our current losses. Individuals world-wide already greatly endorse cryptocurrency, DeFi and NFTs. These decentralized systems are already further ahead of the current centralized institutions. It is only a matter of time before we see a transition occur. And when that transition happens in the web it will be only a matter of short time before it happens in all industries, who happen to be dependent on the web. Therefore, it is official- Web 3.0 is less than a generation away.
