As the days of the autonomous cars becoming a majority on our roads come closer and closer, 5G internet is preparing accordingly. The fast incoming of 5G internet already brought many changes into the world. From faster internet to more broadband availability, it is already revolutionizing our modern way of life. But 5G internet is not stopping at just providing better internet for every household. It is also about to influence autonomous driving by taking over every robotic vehicle out on the road as well.

Hoping to Reduce Human Error

Today, there are about 16,438 car crashes occurring daily in USA. This means that there is an average of about 6 million car accidents happening in the country every single year. By using the latest AI technology in robotic or self-autonomous vehicles, creators are hoping to greatly decrease those numbers. In fact, experts believe that accidents can be decreased by a staggering 90% with the introduction of autonomous driving. This number is taking into consideration the statistics of human error versus the facts of robotic accuracy. If this prediction really is correct then perhaps autonomous vehicles really are worth investing more into, especially if it means potentially saving over 37,000 lives of Americans a year.

What Role 5G Plays in Autonomous Driving

The goal is to make the autonomous-driving vehicles so self-efficient that they can communicate with each other on the road on their own. This is where 5G comes into play.

By adding 5G internet into autonomous vehicles will allow them to communicate with each other at remarkable speeds. They will also be supported by the surrounding 5G towers. The hope is to replace human error with intelligent AI. The goal is that this would eventually lead to a significant decrease in traffic and accidents.

Empowering Autonomous Driving AI with 5G

New autonomous vehicle software creations are incorporating the latest AI advancements with the incredible 5G speeds. Sensors are now able to detect upcoming objects or hurdles during road or weather conditions that would otherwise have been hard for the human eye to detect. Smart cameras in the vehicles can now read and understand upcoming signs and signals.

Upgraded GPS technology will allow each vehicle to communicate its data and location with the surrounding vehicles. This will help the vehicle find the quickest route to its next destination. It will also make it aware of the proximity of the vehicles to the front, left, right or back of it. Innovative software programs will allow the vehicle to be able to make instant decisions, based on the present road and environment conditions.

An Exciting Future

Being alive in a time when innovations are evolving at a faster pace than ever in history before is exciting. So many new strategies of redeeming time are coming up. Within the next 5 years, we will witness a greater development of creations than was made even in the last 50.  And the collaboration of autonomous driving with 5G internet is just one of them.
